OMG Bobbie is Building a Nest!! U/D 17th June

Poor Bobbie, just keep telling her that she needs to get over this little hurdle and then she can have the life of luxuary and rest that she deserves - like your other bunnies. Poor girl
Both of you keep strong - thinking of you...

Bobbie is now manic and building a mega nest with fur, the works. OMG I think babies are imminent. Should I leave the five Boblets with her overnight?
They are eating hay, pellets, veg + grass but are only 3-4 weeks old so must still be suckling.
If Bobbie has more Boblets tonight will she attack the older Boblets?

HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Jane, I had a rabbit here that had a newborn litter, and a 4 week old litter, then 4 weeks later another litter!! remember Rowan? I separated the 4 week old litter and left her with the babies, every day though I put her in a run with the 4 week old litter so that she still had contact with them, then by the time the younger litter were old enough they all went in a run together at some point in the day. I done this with the 3rd litter too. From what I could tell she was only interested in the new borns, having two litters together was too much for her.

Good luck xx

Oh god
poor little thing
Is that how they pull their fur out to build a nest ? Ouch!

My sister's rabbit went through something like this she pulled out loads of fur and made a nest in her hutch but there was absolutely no chance of her being pregnant because we have no male buns I hope this post is a little comfort to you Jane!!! All the best for Bobbie keep us posted

This is to an extent an extreme case, they will pull fur out of any part of their body to make the nest cosy and warm, however it does take a while to regrow. Unfortunately for those who have multiple pregnancies time and time again their fur does not have time to grow in between, therefore new areas of the body are sought. Resulting in a strangly looking bunny like this.

Still no more Boblets and no more nest building. She has spent the day eating and sleeping. The poor girlie is exhausted

God bless her. Poor little lamb. Thats a good sign that she is eating though isn't it? Sending lots of loving, healing, pain free vibes. Bobby so deserves a good life now as do all the bunnies.

If shes eating then the babies aren't imminent, rabbits tend to go off their food before birth, presumably because they know they'll have to eat plenty of afterbirth and placenta.

Just a thought to take the strain off Bobbie a bit, have you given her and the Boblets access to a bottle of goats milk/kitten rearing milk? That way the Boblets will use that and suckle from Bobbie less, and Bobbie will probably drink it too. I know alot of Breeders (sorry i know thats a dirty word on this topic!) use this method for does with big litters and find it helps.

Jane you have to do what YOU think is best for Bobbie, whether thats leave the kits with her, take them away and attempt to handrear them, or take them away and PTS. Everyone on here knows how much you love rabbits and that you will have made the decision with the rabbits best interests at heart. Personally I would take away the older litter - my first ever litter the doe died at 4 weeks due to calcium definency :( , and the 4 week olds she left behind all survived with no intervention from me, they were all fine. I know not all litters are this lucky, but they certainly have a higher chance of survival than a second litter.

Fingers crossed theres no litter due and everything will be fine.

If another litter arrives, it is likely that the older babies will come over to mine, I have all the rest of the babies here and we will socialise the babies together so that they can learn 'rabbitty things' from the other babies. Good thinking on the goats milk .... Jane and I had discussed about supplementing them the other day. Hopefully no more boblets will arrive and Bobbie can get on with getting herself back to a better healthy condition and look forward to her retirement.
