Please Note - Medical Advice
Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.
You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.
We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.
Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.
How's Nena been today?
Good luck with the rest of the treatment. Really hope it works so you can avoid another GA. I can't imagine how stressful it would be to have to squeeze an abcess. Keeping my fingers crossed for Nena.
That sounds quite positive. I'm so pleased she has improved a little, I love your bunnies
I'm sorry I haven't replied to your pm... but I'm really pleased Nena is seeming better
One thing my vet suggested with Charlie's ear was warm and then cold compresses to help massage it and that might help it drain... I can't remember whether he said that would or wouldn't help if it was a tooth root abscess :? (this was before we had him in and had it drained and knew it was an ear infection) but his thought at that point was that it wouldn't hurt anything.
I don't know whether anyone else with an abscess bunny has been told similar or whether its something your vet might have any idea about. Sorry my memory isn't better!!
Hope the check up this week is positive xx
Sending vibes to Nena
My wee fella is going through something similar and I could relate to what you put in your first post.
My wee bun has an abcess behind the eye or at least thats wot we think as he's not well enuff to go under GA and he's 11 which poses even more of a risk. Like ur bun hes on penicillin injections every 2 days and baytril twice a day. His eye bulged out but has went down a bit , Prior to that he had a bad case of snuffles and was doing well until his eye bulged out . tomorrow is his fourth penicillin injection. yesterday the vet spoke about how long to continue it for as if 3 injections were quite a lot. But after reading ur post and some on here I feel he would need a long course of treatment.
I am hoping for a mircale for my wee man
Hope your bun gets well soon
Mega mega vibes for Nena tomorrow. xxx
