Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My sweet Rexy gone

I'm so very sorry to hear of your loss, it is always so upsetting when you loose a pet.

I lost my first bunny in similar circumstances, came home from work and as ever she rushed up to me for her treat, I gave it to her, went upstairs to change and when I came down she had died. It looked as if she had just stretched out on her tummy as she always did after eating and her little head had just flopped onto the floor. I was heartbroken, I have never had a rabbit who was so affectionate, she would ask to be picked up and she would lick your face like a dog does when it's excited.

Sudden death is common in rabbits and the only comfort is that they did not suffer from a lingering illness.

Rexy

Thank you for your kind words everyone.

~I had given her some carrot pellets, quite small things and she has had them many times before as have the other buns and guineas too.

The vet did say it was probably a heart condition or respiratory.

It's unheard of that a bun can choked on a treat. THey are animal and should break down the food in small pieces. A PM sometimes are totally inconclusive and it becomes a total waste of money

I agree it could be heart, or even weak genes that can causes sudden death.

Get another rehome bun in your closest rescue center to keep your daughter company

And so sorry for your loss
