  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mishka has been in a fight, lost part of her eyelid

About 20 mins ago she started to nibble some hay and I've since managed to get her to eat some carrot tops. I found one with a tiny carrot on the end so I've just given her that and she's having it very enthusiastically, thank goodness

Just picked her up off the bed and found a large wet patch underneath her and all down her chest; she's drooling. Should I be worried? I'm not liking any of this at all

Mention it to the vet and they can check for any dental issues.

Thinking of you and glad she's had a nibble at least x

Thank you all XX
She's always had good teeth and they were checked recently but I'll mention in case. I have a feeling this vet would tell me something was wrong even if it wasn't though. But we'll see.
She's currently munching very happily on some more green veg/herbs so looks like she's finally picking up. Only to have to go through anaesthetic tomorrow, poor girl.
I'll never forgive myself for letting this happen. It's entirely my fault. I've caused her pain and something she'll have to live with for the rest of her life.

Thank you all XX

You didn’t let this happen. It’s not your fault. You didn’t foresee this would happen, and you didn’t sit back and watch it happen. So it’s not your fault. I know it’s easier said than done but you shouldn’t blame yourself. I’m sure she will be ok xx

Hey it's not your fault, please don't blame yourself!

Things happen and we can't control everything.

I hope you get some sleep tonight so you can think clearly in the morning x

As others have said it's not your fault, these things happen. Sending lots of vibes for a speedy recovery and hope it goes well tomorrow x

Thinking of you and Mishka today. She might have bitten her tongue or something when they had the fight.

I'm really worried I've done there won't thing.. they're not using gas! I only found out at the last minute. My last companion care used isoflurane, I assumed this one would do the same. She said she's using a combination of three anesthetics, the only name I recognized was ketamine, and that "a lot of vets mask then down which is the wrong thing to do as it stresses then" - she also scruffed her again!

I'm thinking of you both.
It's a worrying time for you, but going she gets through this OK and all is well x
