I don't want to do this any more/ Not good news post 147

I couldnt do what you do.
Those bunnies owe their lives to you.
Whatever the outcome of any bunny who comes to you, they get love and care first and foremost.
You are The ultimate Bunny Mummy.
Hoping miracles come your way.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

My vet reconstructed Sage's personal parts (genitalia and anus - which were a complete mess due to birth defects, tail was growing up anus and vagina etc deformed. Sage was not in good health at the time, being the runt anyway.
She really is a total whizz with small scale surgery - she also did Damson's kidney and Willow's gut blockage - both one in a million chances.

If you feel you and Elwood were up to it I am sure she would at least give an opinion.

If you feel that is not an option then I will understand completely.

Thank you Twigs. We really don;t feel a big op is the way forward with Elwood, especially as it was an operation that caused the problem in the first place and he has so many GA risks.

However i am wondering about contacting a few vets to see if there is any chance of working on something external to help him such as catherterization.

If anyone can suggest some expert vets that we could email I would be forever grateful.

Steve and I have been talking and while we had previously decided to stop taking bunnies in for a few months we have found that this hasn't helped our situation at all.

Both financially and emotionally we cannot continue as we are. therefore we will not be taking in any more rabbits for the foreseeable future. We will continue to give the rabbits we have here the best quality care and will continue to raise funds to do this. It may even give us a chance to have a day away from the bunnies, something that I have not done for many years.

If and when we do start to accept rabbits again, hopefully we will be able to keep it on a smaller scale allowing us to continue what we do for much longer.

We still have 38 rabbits here that all need that little bit of extra love and we will still give each and every one the high level of care that they all deserve. So it would be great if you are able to continue to support the work we do :)

So sorry you're having such a bad time of it, I honestly don't know how you do it sometimes but I'm so glad that so many bunnies have had the chance to know love and a good home, you and Steve are amazing people xxx

Lots of love to Elwood and all the other poorly bunnies xxx

Aww poor you, it must be hard doing what you do, but what you do is amazing!! I really hope there is a vet out there that knows what to do xxx

I'm so sorry Liz

I admire you and Steve so much for all the work you do :D

I think it sounds like a good idea for you to stop taking in rabbits for a while, and you will have my continued support xx

Regarding Elwood I hope you can find something to help him.

(((((((((((((((((((Liz!)))))))))))))))))))))

Nobody can do what you're doing except you. You're the only one who has the strength to. You have given all these bunnies wonderful, loved lives and you can always rest in the knowledge that you did EVERYTHING you could to alleviate some of the suffering in the world.

Please keep on doing what you're doing.:love::love:

I am so sorry that everything is extremely difficult for you at the moment.

There is no shame in having a well earned break from taking in any more Rabbits.
I made that decision months ago and whilst I have been asked to take on at least 4 more Rabbits I have ad to say 'no' There is a limit to what each of us as individuals can do without compromising our welfare, financial stability and emotional health. If any part of us crumbles (or crumbles any more in my case !) then the welfare of the Rabbits we already have would be threatened.

I think that concentrating your energy on the current Buns at Rainbow Rabbits will be exhausting enough without adding to your workload, however much your heart wants to.

You're doing an amazing job, sadly so many will go to the bridge but they have had such a wonderfull life while they have been with you, dont forget that.

They said possibly short term, but the risk of infection is too hig long term :(

Could he not be given covering shorts of antibiotics ever so often to knock any infection on the head. Spice was given a shot of convenia ( 14 acting antibiotic) to stop infections developing in her mouth and it worked well. In the end it was because her kidneys had practically stopped functioning ( she had chronic renal failure) which made us call it a day.

I will ask more questions next time, we were a bit shell shocked today with the diagnosis so weren't armed with the right questions :)

I honestly believe that if we don't take a break now from taking on new bunnies and try to struggle on as we have been then at some point soon Rainbow Rabbits will be over forever. We have worked far to hard in recent years to let that happen. If we step back abit now and concentrate on what we already have then we can come back refreshed and start helping more buns with renewed energy and enthusiasm :D

:(:(:(
Oh no, what a time you're having. You do such a fantastic job with all of your bunnies, it must be devastating to lose them. Just know that they have had the most fantastic home and a wonderful life with you.
I hope Ellwood finds his miracle.

I can understand how you feel, and better that you take a break and come back refreshed, rather than make yourselves ill and unable to cope with the ones already in your care.:)

i'm sorry. you are right to step back a bit. but with 38 bunnies you won't be stepping back very far! take care of yourselves.

You do an amazing job and I'm sure not taking in any new bunnies for now is the right way to go. The only rabbit specialist I know of is Francis Harcourt-Brown. I've seen her name mentioned a few times on the forums and she saved a friend of mines rabbit that other vets had said needed to be pts (dental problems so not same thing but must be worth an email).

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about Elwood. :(:( I know how much he means to you, as do all your buns, and I really don't know how you cope with so much sadness and stress. :(

If you feel you need a break from taking in any more bunnies, then that's what you must do. Take care and huge hugs. xx
