  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Help

As said above this rabbit really does need to see an exotics vet straight away

Im also using the tapatalk app and can't see the picture properly but by what I can see I think that this bun must be in bad pain and obviously needs the treatment

Hopefully one of the vets above helps

If it was myxi then both eyes would look similar and the ears would likely feel very swollen too. In advanced myxi the rabbit often has eye infections which is why it looks similar.

It's very extreme for conjunctivitis, it might be there is an underlying problem and that's why the eye drops didn't clear it up eg there could be something still stuck in the eye. The vet would need to clean it up and see whether the eye underneath looked like it was savable which would probably involve antibiotics and painkillers. If the eye is too damaged to save, then an operation to remove it would be an option. The prices vary a lot between vet practices.

If your nan is on any benefits she might qualify for help from the PDSA or your vet might consider a payment plan. They'll be able to give you options and prices. In the short term they can probably give antibiotics and painkiller relatively cheaply if you need time to make a decision/work out funds.

It's 2 pics of a bunny with a very sore eye. Don't click on the pics for a closer look though as you will not see what you were expecting to see

I'm quite local to you, in Southampton.

I don't know of any specific bunny savvy vets in Portsmouth but do know of a couple of good vets (not exotic specialists, but nevertheless good with rabbits) in and around Southampton. Do PM me if you want the name of them.

In terms of exotic specialists, I'm afraid I think the closest is Anton Vets in Andover.

Thanks for the warning but I've already clicked and got nothing.

Click on the lower image................

I really dare not! It can't be any worse that I imagine can it!?

Also all humor aside everyone has given you the best advice. Get the bunny to a vet, rabbits deteriorate very quickly and yours will need to be seen now!
