Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Looking for an alternative to Twelve TVM eye drops

Penguingirl

New Kit
Hi all,

The Netherland Dwarf I care for has allergies and the vet has had him on Twelve TVM eye drops for ages. However, they aren't' being manufactured anymore and the vet a) wasn't aware of that and b) wasn't confident in her alternative suggestions of ViscoTears and 'anything with methylcellulose'. ViscoTears turns out not to have methylcellulose, has had a product recall recently, and is a gel - which I don't think will be easy to apply or comfy for bunny eyes. I know gels aren't easy for me to apply to myself, and I use them every night!

The ingredients in Twelve drops are totally different to anything else, which concerns me a lot. I like that Twelve had 'Twelve Eye Support contains vitamin B12, magnesium, potassium and hyaluronic acid for good cornea protection. Vitamin B12 is necessary for cellular multiplication and hyaluronic acid aids tear adhesion to the corneal epithelium. The drops have a hydrating and soothing effect.' The manufacturer suggested the product that they've replaces Twelve with: Remend Corneal Gel. Not the same ingredients as Twelve, but closer than the others. A gel though.

So my question is, have any of you tried Remend, or a gel on your buns eyes?

Actually, I recommend trying Remend Corneal Gel as suggested by the manufacturer. While not identical to Twelve, it's closer in composition and might offer similar benefits. Gels can be tricky, but worth a try for your bunny's comfort. U can buy pet medication without prescription at web platform like worldpetexpress or wherever. Wish u stay healthy!
