Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When she eats she's making a sort of grunting noise. If you put the volume up high hopefully you can hear it. Seems to come from her throat. She seems happy though as eating as normal so no pain. Guess I'll see if it continues tomorrow and will go to the vets

hope its nothing more then being getting overexcited with food mabel does but she doesn't grunt when eating its just as food is coming to her

my nethie rosie once had abit of hay trapped in her throat and baffled the vets we had years back, she was sqeaking, but fine after given some meds (cant remember what now)

Didn't she make a noise like this before. I might be wrong so sorry if I am and I hope it's nothing serious as she's been doing so well.

Oh dear...going to send preemptive vibes, I really hope it's nothing serious, given her history. xxxxx

It's a different noise. She's eating away happily though. Mark isn't in tomorrow and I happen to be off. Strangely enough when she drinks she doesn't make it.

My honey makes a kind of grunting noise when eating her pellets. She never does it when eating hay, forage or treats or anything. Only pellets!

I have noticed she does eat them quite quickly and think it's just that she gets excited. Does this sound like doughnut? Xx

No its not her excited noise. Will pop to the vets tomorrow and they may keep her in for when marks back on Thursday

I've added the video now, hopefully someone can hear it and see what they think. Mark isn't working on Thursday but I'm dropping her down in the afternoon and got an appointment with him Friday morning. He'll give her her breakfast and listen to the sound for me.

Unfortunately I can hardly hear anything and I have the volume turned up to maximum. Could the noise be from her nose rather than her throat ?
This can happen if the Rabbit is brewing an upper RTI or in cases of tooth root elongation.

I am sure Mark will figure out what's going on, he usually does !!

Now I've heard it, it doesn't sound like what I was imagining .. It's an almost 'human' sound isn't it?

I would suspect upper respiratory but glad you have Mark on the case :thumb:

It may be her nose as I thought that initially but obviously becuase of her reflux I thought maybe throat. It isn't the same as before though.

She didn't do her normal binkies last night and I thought her eyes didn't look as bright. She still eating though and happy. Is an RTI ok to be left until Friday? The sound is like a human, it reminds me of when I have a cold and am chesty.

It may be that in the next couple of days she will start sneezing. Have you checked her 'cuffs' to see if there is any signs of matted fur there which would indicate that she is already wiping her nose.

She was cleaning her face a lot last night and also noticed she seemed to drink more, don't know if this has any bearing on it. She has sneezed a few times in the last week but not a lot. I've given her a bit of metacam since she's prescribed it anyway.

I'll check her cuffs. She's sleeping in her castle at the moment so don't want to disturb her. When I take her in tomorrow I'll mention this so that if another specialist sees her when she's eating her dinner and think it is a RTI I'm happy for them to start antibiotics. Don't want her getting worse but hopefully another day won't make much difference.

Personally I feel it would be OK to wait until Friday, but as she is going in tomorrow evening, they may begin antibiotics anyway in advance of Mark seeing her.

Now you mentioned more drinking, I am thinking teeth again! Pesky buns :D

I'm just thinking expense :)

She hasn't drunk much today and she's flopped out so not in any pain, I have given her a small dose of metacam though. I won't give her any tomorrow when she goes in so they can see her behaviour.

She has been playing with a delivery I've got as it arrived in a cardboard box so I'm sure she's not suffering!

How are things today?

Expense - absolutely!
It's all very well for us to sit here on the Forum and recommend you do this and that, but it costs *hundreds* EEK

My boy makes a grunting noise when he eats his pellets - he has always done it. I think it's the speed at which he eats them - he sort of snorts! He's fine in himself, so I don't worry about it. I just say that he doesn't have very good table manners.

tabby rabbit grunts when she's cleaning herself and eating cecals because she enjoys it so much...
