Dora is not a well bunny/She has gone p130/ PM results p137

I am thinking of Dora today xx

Aaww thank you, Steve is now dropping her off. We have had a cuddle and a chat this morning ( me and Dora not me and Steve!)

I read through your thread last night so have a list of meds ready depending on todays outcome

Thanks Susan and Karen, although I am dreading it today couldn't have come soon enough. Really hope we get some answers and find some meds to help her...

Dora is home after having bloods and conscious x-rays taken. We are still none the wiser about her condition:(. The x-rays were completely clear, all areas of her lungs are getting air, they are not compromised in any way. Her heart appeared and sounds normal, no murmurs etc

However her bloods indicate a really low white blood count which suggests a serious infection or her immune system is not working properly :? the rest of her bloods are fine. We do not know why a low white blood count would present itself with such difficulty breathing so some has been sent to the lab for further investigation.

So possibly in a few days we may have some answers and a course of treatment for her or we might not. If the lab can't offer us anything to try then we are going to give heart meds a go just to see if they do help and there is something going on that we can't pick up on.

So its going to be a few more anxious days :(

Thanks to those who have replied  I really want Dora to get better soon so she can finally settle down and have a friend to live out her retirement with :)

I am sorry todays tests haven't thrown up any clues. I hope that yourselves and the vet find a treatment which helps her.

Thank you both. I am really scared for her now, she seems to have got so much worse since I bought her home, her head is held really high :(

Really sorry she's struggling. It's so frustrating when you don't know what you're fighting against :(

I guess the Vet could only do a dorsoventral view ?

Sometimes it is not possible to pick up an abnormality from a dv view alone, but obviously if a GA is out of the question that is all that can be done.

Poor Dora

She said that we need a proper heart scan by a specialist to get any further info as their US equipment is sophisticated enough, but because we have had something significant come up on the bloods we need to explore that first. TBH I don't think making her travel would be in her best interests just now :(

I really wish we could start some meds now before we get the lab results but as nothing is pointing to her heart as far as diagnostics go we may do more harm than good just now, but it is so hard to sit back and do nothing.

I have just been watching her in tears as it looks so distressing but she has just happily hopped in her litter tray and is munching hay!

I have taken a few photos from a distance with my zoom lens although I doubt anyone will have any other suggestions but you never know :?

Pictures taken of her in her resting in her crate on return from the vets. They are not great pics as taken from a distance and the camera has focused more on the bars, however i thought it would be good for me to keep a record of her position so I can see more easily if it has improved/deteriorated :?

Taken immediately on return

Taken an hour later :? I was really panicking ( well on the inside as I didn't want to stress Dora with my worries ) when I saw her like this but i offered her a crunchie and she bounced up like a 2 year old without a care in the world!!

I wrote a massive reply to this earlier. I was sure it had posted. Apparently not as I can't see it on thread!

This properly made me giggle this morning. Bunny chats are the best! :D I have a few other threads marked from buns with the same problem but there's nothing to add that isn't on mine anyway.

I was also going to mention what Jane has said - that sometimes they can't see it from certain angles. I couldn't remember what the view names were though so wouldn't have been much help anyway  Oidhche's heart also sounded fine to begin with, I know the vet had a good listen all round her chest and didn't hear any problems at the start. Sorry, it sounds like I'm gunning for it to be her heart, I'm really not, it's just all that I know about, so it's all I can tell you about!

Hopefully the labs will pick up something explaining why her WBC count is so low, and will give you a definite explanation, something completely different which means you can write all this off. If not we were in the same boat - suspected heart issues but unable to do the necessary diagnostics so just having a go...which then confirmed the suspected diagnosis.

I actually think that the later pictures of her breathing look better, if I'm comparing them to how Oidhche was, and to other videos of heart rabbits I've seen. When they are really bad, they prop themselves up on their front legs, as if to make as much space in the chest available as possible. If you see the video MissFloppyEars posted she's doing it there. Sometimes they actually do it on things, like putting the front feet on the edge of the litter tray. So in the later photos, even though Dora's head is held higher, she fact that she is lying down may indicate it's actually not as bad? I would also expect her to be worse straight after coming home because of the stress of a vet trip, which would fit with the way she's sitting.

Lots and lots of vibes for her, she is such a bonny wee girl. Love the wee white flashes on her nose and neck!

Thank you  She even does happy flops but keeps her head up as she does them

The lab will be able to tell us if the low count is due to infection or her immune system so that might give us a possible cause/treatment plan or just end up giving us more questions!

Liz no wonder you were upset seeing her like that. It is so unnatural for a rabbit to look that way and it's distressing.

I hope something can happen to help her.

Oh, I also meant to say - if you would like some chamomile tea I'll happily post you some down, it would save you buying a whole box if you'd like to try it!

Poor Dora, I'm sorry the tests haven't really give you much to go on at the moment. :(:(

I am wondering if it might be a lymphoma ?

I hope she is more comfortable now

She is happily munching hay at the moment and has just had a drink and wash, thanks.

That is one possibility we have thought or, or possible thymus problems :?

I can't believe she is so poorly, she was only neutered a month or so ago and absolutely sailed through it with no problems at all.
