Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Could Sophie get some vibes? Another dental

What lovely bunnies 🥰 they obviously have a special bond.

Not sure I'd be so willing to share my meal with my significant other, if I had one. 🤣

I'm so glad she's begun eating hay. Was it the abx do you think that helped her turn the corner? Or did she come through without it? Either way, well done, reader and Sophie! (And also Casper 😄) xxxxx

❤️ lovely photo. Casper is helpful in the same way Eddy is 🤣
Boo and Sophie are so lucky to have such helpful bunny friends. :ROFLMAO:

They do. 🥰

Normally Sophie and Casper aren't fans of sharing their food, either, but for some reason today they were feeling generous. :ROFLMAO:

Thank you. I'm not sure. It could be the antibiotics? She's started eating more since she started the appetite stimulant, but I'm not sure if that's what's helping her eat hay. It could be that the antibiotics are taking care of an infection and are making eating less painful. It's hard to say when we don't really know what's going on. She has a dental x-ray next week that might give us some answers. But, yes, I'm very proud of Sophie (and Casper 😁). She ate a little bit of hay today, too. 🥰

Aw beautiful Sophie and helpful Casper ❤️😊
Aww lovely how beautiful they are 😍😍
Thank you both for looking at them, too. ❤️

I have a bit of a surprising update! Sophie had a skull x-ray today, and the vet (who specialises in teeth) said that Sophie's teeth are actually really good for her age, except for one, which had grown really long and nearly met her eye. Since Sophie was sedated for the x-ray anyway, the vet took a look and the gums around the tooth started bleeding when he touched it, so that wasn't right, so he ended up removing the tooth, which went relatively easy, so that's not right, either. He's not sure it's what's been causing Sophie's pain, he said, because normally with such a long tooth root there would be clearer signs, like an abscess or eye trouble, but there wasn't any of that. Both the vet and the vet nurse told me that when they checked on Sophie shortly after she woke up she was already enthusiastically stuffing her face with a big kale leaf, so she coped really well with the removal. She's been eating a lot since we got home, too, and has already been drinking water, which I haven't seen her do in two weeks, so it does really seem like that tooth was the problem all this time and that she's feeling better already.

I'm honestly not too happy if it does turn out that she was having pain because of this tooth the entire time, because I've been saying over and over that I think Sophie's having pain eating and that I think there's something wrong in her head, but the vet who was treating Sophie didn't think that was possible because nothing had looked wrong during her dental, so she was reluctant to do a skull x-ray. If she'd just listened, this could've been done earlier and it would've saved Sophie days of pain and unhappiness.

I'm glad the vet have hopefully got to the root of the problem (pun not intended!) but completely sympathise with your frustrations over not feeling heard. I hope Sophie makes a full recovery!

Thank you so much for sympathising and for hoping for Sophie. The vet said Sophie's a really strong bunny, so I hope she'll recover completely now.

Such a good update in that there is every chance Sophie can recover fully now ❤️ & with her doing so well already

I'm so sorry you had to fight so hard to get her to this stage though. You've done a brilliant job advocating for her:love:
Its super scary to think of that tooth root so close to her eye :( It'd be nice (& sensible) to have the rabbit expert & dental specialist as Sophies named vet. Do you think they'd do that for you?

Isn't it? I'm so hopeful now that she'll be fine. ❤️

Aw, thank you for saying that. 🥰
Yes, he showed me the x-ray and the root was so close, so I'm really glad we caught it now. It would be really nice to have him as Sophie (and Casper's) main vet. I'm not sure that's how they work, though; they don't tend to ask who you want an appointment with; they just schedule you in with whoever, unless a certain vet has recently been treating them.

Oh I missed your earlier post ! Poor Sophie, I'm glad the problem tooth has been removed, and that she is eating OK now, really hope she stays well and happy now bless her x

Aw, thank you for being glad and for hoping she stays well and happy now. She's very tired this evening, poor girl. She hasn't eaten any hay yet, but her mouth must still be sore from the tooth removal, so that's understandable.

Sophie doesn't really want to eat this morning, not even some fruit puree. She's not tooth grinding or overgrooming (for the first day in weeks), so I'm not sure if it's pain, but I wonder if she's maybe nauseated. The vet said she would just swallow the blood coming out of the wound, but I remember from when I had my wisdom teeth out that that made me feel pretty unwell.
