Cookie and Elmo - Thrianta Brothers UD 14/12

I'd never heard of this breed,so did a bit of googling.Seems they were mainly in the Netherlands and during the war when the Nazi's invaded they were in danger if extinction, due to them being (whispers) eaten by starving folk. They are gorgeous bunnies.

I knew they were 'created' for the Dutch royal family who had the house of orange but wow never knew that's why they were nearly extinct  They're not technically classed as a rare breed anymore by the BRC but they are still pretty rare, not sure why though they're so pretty and friendly  I was in pets at home the other day and both burgess and supreme had a picture of a thrianta on one of their products

So litter training is not going well, but hopefully it's only a few more weeks till they can be neutered. The rug is permanently covered in blankets because they kept pooping on it, and they are banned from the sofa since Cookie wee'd on it  Aside from that they've been brilliant, they haven't tried chewing anything they shouldn't and they certainly understand what 'Ah ah!' means. As soon as I see Elmo about to do something naughty (like jumping on the sofa) and I shout ah ah and he will stop and binky the cheeky little monkey

Elmo binky's all day long and we managed to film one of his funniest ones

Just a little update

The brothers started fighting on Sunday so are separated for now. They've been neutered and chipped today, Cookie bounced back straight away, Elmo is still a bit quiet, he's eating and pooing but not wee'd yet. The vet (it's actually called 'The Vet' (Nottingham)) I've been using is half the price for vaccs and neutering than all the other vets near me so I was a bit wary, but I must say I'm really impressed, they seem very rabbit savvy. They sent the brothers home with very detailed post-op advice, 3 days of pain meds (the correct dose too, I worked it out beforehand in case I had to challenge them  ) and want to see them tomorrow and then again in 10 days. They managed to get the combi vaccine from the suppliers yesterday and have put some aside for me in case of any more supply issues which was nice of them. It's really convenient too, open 8am-8pm every weekday and open saturday and sunday too with no out of hours charge, it's a sit and wait job but we've never had to wait more than 15 minutes even when I've requested a specific vet :D

I also got a pet cam yesterday, I saw one on amazon 'Was £40 now £10', and I thought it was one of those 'lets say it used to be a much higher price so people think it's a great deal', but it actually has gone back up to £40 today so I was really lucky. It's a bit buggy but for £10 I'm very impressed, you can view the rabbits when you're out of the house and even remotely move the camera side to side 360 degrees and up and down to get a good view of them, it's got great night vision and 2 way audio too (which doubles as a fun way to scare my partner when he's in the living room and I'm out  )

Anyway here are some more pictures!

Bought a soft carrier as it seemed a bit silly putting them in a 3ft long travel box for a 10 minute trip to the vet

Hay 'Taste Test' with samples from the hay experts. They really liked readigrass, their regular hay (excel herbage) was in second place

And finally a super cute video of them...

Bwah, awesome! I used my laptop webcam and a program off the internet to check on the buns upstairs when I was acclimatising them to travel and new places, and I was glad I didn't have a mic donwstairs or I'm sure I'd've scared the hell out of them when I laughed really loud at Lopsy toppling over! Scaring the OH is par for the course though, sad I missed that deal :D

I love your two, they're such lovely little chaps :D

Hi! I remember you from before and your thriantas. Your new boys are gorgeous! Not sure if you remember me but I had a thrianta too called Ruby, I think we have messaged each other in the past. She sadly died last year. I would have loved another but was unable to find a breeder at the time (where did you get your two from if you don't mind me asking. I currently have a bonded pair of bunnies but I would so love another thrianta, doubt my husband would let me though).

I'm from Nottingham too :)

Everytime I check this thread photo's have disappeared

Anyway just an update to say Cookie and Elmo were successfully re-bonded at Small Paws Boarding (Elksley). They've been home for a week now and are doing great, best of friends just like before their big fall out.

They're certainly much better with litter training, they can be out all day and there'll only be two/three stray poops. They do seem to think their cage is one giant tray though, peeing and pooping all over it. I guess it's better than them doing it all over the living room, but still it looks a mess  Cookie is still a bit hit and miss, he pee'd on the sofa twice on their first day back but I think now he's marked his territory after being away for so long he's improved. He goes in his litter tray now, although I need to get a high sided one as he just wee'd whilst sat in his litter tray, but aimed outside of it at the same time

They're continuing to make us laugh as always, and their eating preferences are as bizzare as ever. They refuse defrosted vegetables and banana, but do try eat chocolate, cheese, paratha, fish cake, ice cream  I can never eat in peace again, I tried to have a chocolate biscuit and Elmo jumped on the sofa and tried to stick his head in my mouth
