Atticus, gut stasis

Oh no, I'm really sorry Atticus has had a bit of a setback. I really hope it's just a blip.

The splats do have a rather unique, erm, bouquet. I think you might need to invest in a nose peg to cope with that and baby poop!

Same, he's been unwell again, still eating hay though currently [emoji51]

Yea they aren't pleasant, the smell is horrendous, makes me gag and I've thrown up a couple of time from it [emoji51]

Yea baby poop sounds terrible too [emoji21][emoji21][emoji21] I'm not really equipped to deal with poop [emoji38] I'm okay with healthy bunny bum nuggets but that's about it [emoji38] no good with hamster poop, or dog poop, I don't even like fish poop [emoji38]

Cat poop is horrendous, I looked after this elderly neighbours cat for her when she went on holiday lots, or away, was this beautiful pedigree rag doll cat? Ice blue eyes, honestly such a perfect looking cat. One night I was looking after her was firework night, well I left her fine, but the next morning I opened the door and christ the smell... Cat **** everywhere... She'd filled the litter box and stopped covering them, then it was on the kitchen floor, in the conservatory, the living room, my neighbours bed... Cat seemed fine [emoji51][emoji38] ate her breakfast, wanted to play [emoji849] I was still cleaning everything and washing the bedding when my neighbour got home around lunchtime [emoji38] was like my idea of absolute hell [emoji38]

I hope Atticus continues to eat his hay..
He is still passing poo, so you know his system is still moving. Can your vet check a sample of foul smelling splats?
Their cecum is way more complex than I realized until my vet explained how they sort material by size and now they now believe bunny gi has pseudo chambers too. Plus material moves in unique ways. They can have nice normal poo and splats at the same time.
How is his drinking?
I had emergency surgery that required me to have a colostomy bag. I spent months wearing a bag of poo until i learned it was not permanent and I had another surgery. So thankful.

Yea he's having his rhd2 next week, so I'll probably take a sample in then, or ask if the vet thinks it's necessary, I'm going back with my hamster after anyway so dropping a sample off is easy.

Blimey why am I not surprised! Buns can't do anything simple can they [emoji849][emoji38] his drinking is normal, he drinks a lot though, always has.

Wow glad that wasn't permanent! Sounds like an awful thing to have to deal with :( x

Glad he is still drinking well. I would show a sample to vets so vet sees and smells sample before determining if a test is needed. I often pull a sealed plastic bag out of my pocket or purse at exam table. Once I forgot to give it to vets and I found it in my purse as I searched for something.Awkward.
I gag from smells too, sometimes more than gag. A surgical mask may help, as could putting a little menthalated cold rub under your nose.
Sending lots of extra vibes for you and Atticus.

Cat poop is the worst. If you could cope with that you can definitely cope with baby poop. Cat poop is far worse than baby poop imo. Just saying:wave:

Had his rhd2 vaccination last night, still hasn't gained the weight back and the vet said he's very underweight :( and he's not happy at all with how boney he is :(

Said to start giving him pellets, I don't feed pellets to my buns really, but obviously if one needed them I would, it's just tough with him, because he's the one with the gut issues [emoji21] and we dropped pellets originally with him because of his gut issues :( need to find a way of putting some weight on him but he only has hay, and he's still being unwell a few times a week, although the vet said as long as it's passing through he's not too concerned tbh. It just wasn't like this before his stasis episode :(

I think I'll start back on the science selective grain free ones as I remember they weren't too bad last time, then go from there, probably gunna be like one a day for a week, then 2 a day for a week, etc etc [emoji51] worse time to be doing this incase he does get stasis too [emoji21]

Doughnut is on dual care permanently now. It is equivalent to critical care but a lot cheaper and in pellet form. It is higher in fibre than critical care and what hospitals use now. She now doesn't eat hay at all so I need to get high fibre into her. Could you try these. She eats a lot more if they are wet and has had bigger poos since being on them.

Hi, yea we were using that when I was syringe feeding him, unfortunately pellets don't agree with him, so I don't want to feed them and make him worse, now he's a little better. I'm lucky he eats loads of hay tbh just isn't able to gain weight on it. Gunna try the pellets that gave him least issues when I tested all the pellet brands when he first got sick, just to begin with and see from there :)

Regarding fibre, I think the fibre content in both the dual care and critical care are similar, because that extra fibre content, beneficial fibre I think they call it, excel puts on all their food, doesn't actually mean anything from what I could see when I looked into it [emoji38]

Price is better though and it doesn't smell so horrendous like CC so it's what I use for syringe feeding too now [emoji38]

Glad Doughnut does well on it :)

Have you tried alfalfa hay. I was told by my specialist to use this to help Doughnut gain weight. Unfortunately I can't use this any more since she won't eat hay. Although I was told she may have arthritis in the jaw so that's why, so can't be cross with her!

Oh bless her! :(

No I don't feed alfalfa anymore because the high calcium content [emoji51] after Clementine having bladder sludge (not from alfalfa, but still was a horrendous experience) I've been too worried [emoji51] Idk if it would upset him either tbh, he can't eat all hays [emoji51] he's such a tough bun [emoji38]

what a quandary - I currently syringe feed Rudey 30mls minimum 5-6 times daily & I still can't get him to gain weight. I hope you can find something that works for him

Yea the funny thing is, if I gave him anything to eat, he'll eat it... No worries there, he'll literally eat anything [emoji38] it's just after he isn't good :(

I am sorry he is unable to gain weight. Is his weight stable since he improved so you can slowly try adding different food?
Sending you all some positive vibes.
