Artie's not well again (not eating)... staying at vet's tonight U/D post 37

It must be frustrating to not really know what's going on. Maybe the receptionist isn't used to people asking for more details - I always tend to ask zillions of questions at the vet and I always get the impression they're a bit surprised.

I could understand at an 'ordinary' vets people just taking what the vet says and not attempting to discuss it but at a specialist vets I would expect, as people have gone to the trouble of seeking them out, that the pet owners would ask more questions. When I paid Artie's bill last time the receptionist said that the bunny owners never complain about the bill as they are obviously willing to pay out or they wouldn't have sought out a specialist in the first place. So, I would have thought the same people would also fire loads of questions.... either the receptionist is plagued by people asking questions or it's just me :oops: I'm sure there's a deliberate policy of giving out only basic information when people ring for an update, I just haven't worked out why :? .... maybe they can't get on with their work for answering questions so they keep it brief? As long as I know a really good team is looking after him I suppose that will have to be enough. *sigh* I suspect I have 'control issues' so just can't cope when he/they are away from me :oops:

Or maybe you just caught her at a bad time of the month. ;)

Perhaps they feel any detailed info is best coming from the vet - that way they know they're giving out the correct information, rather than relying on the receptionist to relay messages. He's in the best possible hands, but I know that won't stop you worrying about him.xxx

No, having done telephone/reception work in and amongst for 20ish years I can definitely see it from the receptionist point of view. She has limited info on quite a few animals. She recites the info then the person at the other ends says " but is...? Does that mean .....? What about....?" to which she has to keep saying, "I don't know, I've told you what it says - I don't know the rest". I've so been there ;)

Aww, thanks guys.

It's not known why he had his not-eating phase but the x-ray did show some gas in his stomach but it was 'passing through okay', so wouldn't have been expected to cause him so much upset. The x-ray also showed a little sludge in his bladder but not of great concern (but obviously would have been nice to see none). There wasn't a blood test. I'm guessing the cat and dog vet thought it was a good idea but the rabbit vet who took over thought it wasn't necessary at that time.

I just went down to make a coffee and when I came back 10 minutes later he ran out to greet me, buzzing :love::love:

Yay, any more info or do you have to wait till you get there?

Sorry I didn't answer this - I made the phone call to the vets from work, having explained to my line manager that I would want to go and collect him if he could come home, then when I got the news I did a quick visit to RU to update... taking a bit of a liberty really :lol:

It's lovely to see him back home where he belongs.

Poor Artie hasn't been eating very well since Friday. He's had patches where I'm really worried about him and then does quite well. I was really worried about him again this morning so he's seeing his 'Auntie Frances' at 2.40 today. He's now tucking into some spring greens and has just wolfed down some raspberry leaves but he just isn't 100% so I'm having him checked out. I can't help thinking it's dental as it's hard food he's avoiding most. If I stare at him for too long he starts eating minute strands of hay as if to make a point

He's been doing really well since I made the appointment, he's his normal enthusiastic self so I've been pondering about whether 2 long car journeys on very hot weather would be a good idea :? So, I decided to cancel the appointment. I really didn't want to stress him today especially now he's doing so well. I gave him fiberplex yesterday and this morning - perhaps that was just enough to help along whatever the problem was. I am now wondering if the hot weather was too much for him, the other bunnies who are coping better are all a lot younger than Artie.

I already had an appointment booked for tomorrow for Art, Esme and Rudy to have VHD jabs so he will go for that either for a 'not eating very well' review or for his jab (if he's deemed up to it).

It's such a roller coaster with bunnies

Poor Artie - I'm sure he's just trying to turn you grey with worry Alison.
