Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Adrenal gland hyperplasia

Hi there

I came across this post when looking for information on what to do when the deslorelin implant fails. Could you give me more info on it and what dosage? My vet said she thinks he’s become resistant to the implant and will look into Lupron.
Don’t know if we can try that if he still has the new implant in him? He just got it 3 weeks ago. It sucks cause the first implant worked for over a year! Second implant worked a little bit, this one nothing so far! Second implant was only 4-ish months ago too. It barely worked but didn’t want to give him the 3rd implant so soon.
Poor guy is going nuts with the honking and chasing, can’t even step in the room because he goes nuts! I can sit and pet him but then he gets a whiff of my arm (scent) and goes crazy! I hate to see him suffer!
Does he have a confirmed adrenal gland tumour ?

It did respond the first time for over a year.
The new one isn’t responding.

Has the Vet suggested surgery ie an adrenalectomy ?

It would require the skills of a Specialist Vet and would be more risky if the tumour is located within the right adrenal gland.

It could be that a different type of implant would give some benefit. No guarantees though.Personally I’d opt to try that rather than high risk surgery.

Surgery is too risky because of his old age and also because where it’s located. They cannot remove it safely without hitting other things.
So not an option.
