  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Is it sneezing or just sniffing?????

Hi
My rabbit that is about 13 weeks old keeps sneezing (well I think it's sneezing)
I took her to the vets when it started and they didn't seem to say much about the sneezing. At first I thought it could be a respiratory disease but the vet tested her heart and said she was healthy.
I was just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with their rabbit as I'm not sure what it is.
However she sniffs around a lot so I'm just wondering if it's got something to do with that?
Also could it be the wood shawings or not ?
Thanks in advance for everyones comments and help !! :):)

It could well be the wood shavings. Most types of wood shavings release a substance when weed on that irritates the respiratory system. Can you try just newspaper and lot so fhay?

Thanks for you help. Would you suggest to put the hay in both the bedroom and the other longer part of the hutch?

As she's only a baby I would say all over. You aren't going to be able to litter train her very much until she's been spayed :)

Oh okay thanks a lot :) Next time I clean her out I will put hay everywhere. I never knew that rabbits can only be litter trained until their spayed .

Wood shavings??

Another question I have about the sneezing thing. If the wood shavings are making her sneeze could it damage her respiratory system in the long run??
Thanks
