Antihistamine for bunnies?

ERCD

Young Bun
Hello lovely people,

I hope you are holding up in the heat :/

I’m wondering if there is an antihistamine for bunnies?

My Bailey Bun is 3 (yesterday!) and there has been occasional sneezing. There was snot once, but otherwise no drooling, no runny eyes, no red eyes.

I took her to the Vet last Monday and she found malocclusion. Bailey had her dental last Friday, where they also found some spurs. This was dealt with.

She is on Metacam until her check up next Monday, and she’s had Emeprid over the weekend. She is eating hay, pellets, greens and treats.

I thought the sneezing was due to a very heavy moult, but the Vet thought it was due to her teeth. I thought it’d be sorted after her op, but there was some sneezing last night.

Her nose is dry after sneezes.

The sneezing is mainly in the evening and I’m thinking that it seems like hay fever, so would like to try an antihistamine to see if it helps. I have ordered some natural antihistamine from Pillow Wad, but is there anything else I can try?

Thank you xx

Did the Vet take skull radiographs ? Dental problems can include elongated tooth roots. This condition can only be diagnosed radiographically. TRE is a chronic condition and it can cause sneezing, with or without nasal discharge and runny eyes. ETR does not resolve after a Dental to sort out the crowns of the teeth, so the sneezing etc is likely to continue.

Re antihistamines -Chlorphenamine,Chlorpheniramine maleate (AKA Piriton)

Diphenhydramine (AKA Benadryl)

Please don’t administer any medications,’natural’ or not, without first consulting a Rabbit Savvy Vet

Hey Jane,

(Long time! Swede here! Got locked out of my old account and no responses from admin when trying to sort issue).

This is what I ordered - I feel confident I can feed it to her:

The next step is a specialist Vet, so X-rays etc will be taken.

Hälsningar,
Renée

Hej ! Trevligt att traffas :D

The herb/flower mix will be fine. I expect it’ll smell lovely too :)

I don’t know how to attach pics here, but she just had a massive sneezing fit (which was a bit scary, tbh) and sneezed out two strands of hay! 👀

They are gunky and look like they have been in there for a while.

We’re booked in for a check up on Monday, but I suspect (hope!) we’ve finally found the reason for the random sneezing.

She’s s bit of a snuffler, bless her - she puts her whole head in her hay xx

Definitely better out than in. I hope the sneezing resolves now x
