  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blind? With pics..

You can take them into the bathroom with the lights off and shine a light in their eye. If the iris does not respond to the change in light then they are blind in that eye.

Will give that a try, thanks :)

He has really bad uvietus in one of his eyes after having EC in January, his iris has turned purple and he has a cluster of blood vessles as well as a white blob in his eye. He has been put on Maxitrol eye drops for a week to see if it imrpoves, the specialist said he may have to have it enucleated :( I really hope not.

Ah poor bun! I hope he's feeling better soon.

We had to do the eye test with a foster we took in. The vet showed us how to gauge his sensitivity to light by doing that. I hope this helps you.

Here are some pics of his eye, not great quality as are taken on my phone and he wouldn't sit still
They don't show how mishapen his pupil is though, and there seemed to be no response to the light :(
