Thank you for all your kind replies, I'll post in Rainbow bridge tomorrow, after Chester is buried in the garden, I'm sorry I'm too upset tonight:cry:

I just thought I would share these with you so you can see what a special boy he was they were taken yesterday, please excuse his face being dirty, but I had to moisten his pellets and he'd just eaten:cry:

He loved to be close to us and last night Jon and I had been sitting on the floor stoking him, when I got up he came and sat on my slipper:love:

Oh god Sue,

Just popped and on and was heartbroken to see this thread.

I am so sorry. I was so sure that he would see Christmas as he was a real little fighter. What a trooper he was. You gave him such a fabulous few months and he was so, so lucky to have been taken in by you and cared for.

Lots of love to you, you're a gem.

You're right Liz I knew Chester was on borrowed time from the moment I adopted him:( The bond I had with him was very strong, as I'd nursed him from the moment he arrived, he had daily meds and used to follow me into the kitchen to get them, :love:he was the only bunny I've had that didn't mind baytril, he was so used to meds that he licked his metacam off the spoon:lol:

That is one of the main problems with taking on special needs bunnies, they need so much time and care that you develop such a special bond with them. It makes loosing them is so much harder  Wouldn't change it for the world though

You did a wonderful thing for Chester :)

He had deteriorated over the last few days, he had been down before and he'd rallied, but I think his body was just too frail, this morning he couldn't stand up and it was obvious he wouldn't make it to the vets, so I sat with him on my knee for the last hour, with the tree lights on so he could see them, his legs started moving like he was running, he sighed and then he was gone, I hope he was running to the bridge:cry::cry:

Does it sound awful if I say, thats really lovely. I know when I held Freddy in my arms as he was dying that I found a real peace knowing I was able to comfort him in his final hours. In a way I wish they could all pass to the bridge like that :(

i hope he was running to the bridge - i am sure he was  you gave him love and care in life, and the most beautiful passing imaginable.

there's a story in islam about prophet muhammad, where he sees a sinner giving water to a thirsty dog, and tells his followers that the woman has secured her place in heaven by her kindness. i hope its true. God bless you.
