  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Roisin - Acute Bloat- UD Improving, PHEW!

Oh Jane, I'm sorry, I'm just seeing this. Many, many healing vibes for the beautiful Roisin that she pulls through and improves soon. Huge hugs on the way for you, too. xxxx

At last Roisin has passed more poo and over the last hour she has started to eat.

Her stomach now feels normal, as do her intestines, just rather empty.BG now 6.5.

I am pretty sure it was eating a lot of willow tunnel that set this all off. I won’t be risking letting her have one again.

Thanks so much for the support x

I am glad she is recovering. You did good detective work determining a possible reason for her becoming bloated.
Hugs she remains well.

I'm so glad she's doing better. I hope she'll recover fully and be back to herself soon.

Goodness, willow was essential to my bunnies' gut health. In fact I had difficulty keeping it stocked for them as they'd power through it like stink. But every bunny is different.
Roisin is lucky to have you caring for her, as are all your rabbits. :) xxxxx

I suspect it's the hard, dry woven willow that's the issue here (I presume), rather than the fresh cuttings with leaves that I feed to mine.

Yeah, my three had tunnels and tents and houses made of firm, woven willow but fortunately wouldn't eat them all in one go.

Pip could eat oat hay, which Fiver couldn't, plus cruciferous veggies were a no-no for all of them. We couldn't risk an attack of wind because it would send them all into stasis.

Bunnies can be so sensitive to some things. :(
