  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

When do bucks bits drop?

New Kit
Hi everyone, I've been asked if I can give a home to 2 mini lop bucks....they're brothers and are 16weeks old.

Anyway I'm happy to do this as I have the room in a playhouse/run setup. and they're lovely little things as well...a REW and an agouti.

I would be looking to get them neutered as soon as possible to avoid hormonal behaviour, my vet says around 4months is the earliest he would neuter them.

They're 16weeks but the problem is their testes haven't dropped yet. The lady who asked me to take them is a breeder and has assured me they are male.

I've been told by some that this is quite abnormal and by others that it's okay-the breeder didn't seem concerned....should I be worried?

Thanks for your time!

It might be they are pulling them up, so they may be there but the boys are 'shy'.

There is such a wide window for development.

Maybe take them to your vet for a check up and see what they think about whether or not they are descended.

my vet neuters at 16 weeks or when they drop but it varies . A good way to see if they have dropped is to take them inside for a wee while the heat will let you see if they are down ;)
