introducing a new bun to a bonded pair?

hi!

I have a pair of bonded sisters who I rescued at 6 weeks, they're currently 18 months old and are as thick as thieves. I recently went to my local rescue to drop some bits and pieces off that my girls don't like, and absolutely fell in love with a bun they'd recently taken in (unsure of gender yet, it had only been there a few hours when I saw it).

I'd love to take it on, but my rabbits share a space and I'm looking for advice on whether or not its possible to introduce another rabbit to an established pair? Ive seen mixed opinions, so I'm looking for solid advice. If its not possible then I absolutely won't, I don't want to end up with a lonely bun.

Are both girls spayed ?

A Doe/Doe bond is the least stable combination, even if they are siblings. Personally I would not attempt to bond a third Rabbit to a Doe/Doe bond. There’s a high risk that the Doe/Doe bond would break down. Worst case scenario is that you could end up with three single Rabbits who all hate each other.

As an aside, if the Does are not spayed then please consider doing this as entire Does have a very high risk of developing uterine cancer by the age of 5, sometimes younger. My Rabbit Savvy Vet has seen Does as young as 2 with uterine cancer.

Thank you! I won't get the bun. It's a shame but its not worth the risk to end up with three lonely rabbits.

And yep! Both of them are spayed and fully vaccinated, I'm lucky to have a great vet who specialises in small animals

I had a boy girl pair, added a third beautiful girl ...my resulting trio was the happiest of all my bunny owning years. Then i got greedy & tried for a quad...it was a fail as a month in I didn't feel I could trust them together. It'd be lovely if it worked out but I agree, far too risky. Enjoy your trio. Id love to see photos of them
