  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Fertile for how long after neuter?

I apologize if this isn't in the proper section...I just wan't sure.

I'm wondering if someone can tell me how long after a neuter will Lloyd still be able to make babies? I'm thinking about getting him a wife and would like to start introducing him to different ladies to see who he chooses. Most of the single ladies I have in mind are not yet spayed, which is why I am asking.
Thanks in advance!

Some Vets say 2 weeks, some 4 weeks. I would err on the side of caution and wait at least 4 weeks.

I got my buck from a rescue centre 3-weeks after he had been neutered and when my doe was too young to spay. My doe didn't get pregnant.

The lady who ran the rescue centre told me she'd been putting neutered bucks with unspayed does, 3-weeks after the bucks had been castrated, for the past 10-years and never had a pregnancy. I can't imagine why she would want to lie about this as she would be creating more unwanted rabbits for herself. Vets will always err on the side of caution.
