  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

vac skin reaction!!!

lurchergirl does magic get the reaction everytime he gets the jab?

It was the first jab he had, but with his reaction, I don't think he will be vaccinated against VHD again... I can't be going through this again with him!

Im taking everyone for vacs tonight, Ill check with Otis's records but I really am 99% sure it only happened with the first vhd jab. Eve, from what I remember it looked like a big scab, very dark in colour and about the size of an old 10p piece. He lost the fur instantly but it didnt go bald any further. At the time I didnt put much of anything on it, just kept checking it. I think he had his op within a few weeks as he had his vacs on his first visit to the vet pretty much the day after I bought him. I do remember the vet checking the "scab" again at the same time as his stitches. So I think his jab to his post-op was possibly about a month or so ?

tarha

i have just collected him and his brothers from the vets, he was fine with the anastetic thanks god, although his brothers had to be knocked out again because they started tearing at the stitches, as if i was not stretched enough with worry, i have now got to worry that they dont do it again.

but will get that picture on here later.
