The litters I have had here have started to nibble solids as soon a they leave the nest and are usually weaned by 6 weeks.
Around 5 weeks is the prime age for GI problems to occur in kits.
Sadly because they were hand reared they would not have got the nutritional, bacterial and immune support they needed from mums milk, but that said 5 week old doe reared kits are at high risk of enteritis and enterotoxemia too.
