  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

The sneeze continues

Please find a different vet you can trust, my bunny was a indoor bunny he had sneezing fits for 2 years and my vets didnt know what it was, unfortunately he passed last week he was only 5.
Please find a rabbit savvy near where you live. My vets were **** and I feel guilty for taking him there, never again, I wont take any of my pets there again, I know they are a charity vet but they do not know much about bunnys.

I'm so sorry to hear that, sleep in the lights xxx

There is a problem of rabbit vets and even rabbit stuff in Turkey, there are almost no rabbit vets here. I'm moving to the Netherlands soon, thanks to a member of the forum living in the Netherlands we found a good rabbit vet. When I get there I will take my rabbit to the vet right there. :|

I'm sure you wrote great, but my English was insufficient to understand the whole. :D What does RTI mean?

I have cared for several Rabbits with histories of RTIs and many are left with a chronic issue with sneezing due to scaring in the nasal passages caused by previous infections.

What does nasal passage scaring mean?

Nebulising the Rabbit with a sterile saline solution can sometimes help reduce the sneezing.

What exactly is this, I don't understand it

Sorry Jane, I'm getting you a little tired. :|

Jane, you were right. I talked to the vet and she said it could be an allergy or nasal inflammation due to previous infection. But she does not offer anything as a treatment. :( She says he will be treated as his complaints increase. :(

If the sneezing does not distress him, there is no active infection and he is in every other way well then he might now just be a Bunny with chronic post RTI sneezing. As previously mentioned nebulising can sometimes help. I would not want to be administering drugs if they are not necessary.

Ok he looks fine now, best to watch now. Thank you so much :)
