Stanley died due to fight at rabbit boarding

Hi Doorkeeper,

I did mention that he suffers with bladder sludge, and that he had recently had a catheterisation to clear his bladder. I had to explain what it was to the boarder lady, as by her reaction she didnt seem to know what it was (??!!!!). I said he is on a low calcium diet, so we only give him a few pellets, and a lot more veg to compensate. He is a bit of a poor drinker, recently he has been drinking moer out of a bowl so she said she would give him a bowl and bottle - I do that too so he had the option of either.

I didnt think that his weight loss could be lots of water too. When I took him to the vets, they didnt say he was overly dehydrated (I asked if he was), but I guess of course it could have contributed. He was very cold and in shock :(

I dont suppose any of you know or can recommend a solicitor who specialises in or has good knowledge of animal welfare? South East England/London, thank you. xx

Those talking of solicitors - from my very recent experience, the cost would be horrendous. To give you an idea, £190 per hour & 1/10th hour per Phone Call/Email. Obviously a very sad situation but I feel the costs may be prohibitive.

Wish I could. I'm down here in IW. Maybe Citizens Advice can help. As said before, your local council license animal premises. You could get in touch with them. I reported a horrible local pet shop and the council sent an officer in with a vet and inspected them. Amazingly, the shop got their act together and the change is for the better. The council wrote to me to advise what they were doing!
Usually, although solicitors are very expensive, it may only take one threatening letter.
But the council is the cheaper option.

Thankyou both! After reading your replies I actually think I will contact the council and go from there. I definitely can't afford those costs although I wish I could.

I would ask the Vet for a print out of Stanley's clinical records relating to the awful incident. Hopefully the Vet will have commented on the fact that the Boarder should have bought him in sooner. He may even have had septicaemia as a result of the fight wound. That could present in exactly the same way as how poor Stanley was in his final hours. At least then you will have some documented evidence in your possession should you need it.

If they don't want to give a print out, maybe ask them to provide a written statement on headed paper with the vets signature.

I am so so sorry for your loss. You should definitely take further action. Thank you for posting the name as I have been looking at boarding for my rabbit in the same area so will now know to avoid xx
