We rescued a rabbit Millie on Friday, she’s 6 months old, we think a mini lop as she's pretty small and was not living in great conditions but seemed healthy and happy. She settled in quickly, very affectionate and confident but desperately needed neutering as her hormones were upsetting her. As she’d settled so well and was eating and drinking really well, we booked her in to be spayed on Tuesday.
She was operated on about midday, and according to the vets, was slow to recover, needing syringe feeding and IV fluids. They thought her reluctance to eat may be stress, so she came home yesterday evening. She had Metacam injections on day of spay and yesterday.
We took her back in yesterday night as she still wasn’t eating at home, gave her subcut fluids whilst she was with us but any critical care we gave just came dribbling out… she also wasn't drinking.
Spoken to the vets today and they’ve said she still isn’t swallowing. Obviously they’re investigating, she’s thankfully still got gut sounds and they’re giving stimulants and opioid pain-killers as we felt pain was an issue based on her behaviour yesterday…. today she's had bloods done and IV fluids.
Any advice, at all would be greatly appreciated. We're worried sick about her vets are concerned it may be anaesthetic related but cannot fathom why she won't swallow
