Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Young Bun
Evening all,

I was wondering if anyone had any advice. One of our rabbits has a bit of ‘eye bogey’ on his eyeball, and I have tried wiping gently with a damp piece of kitchen roll and I can’t get it off. He’s not bothered by it that I can tell. He’s still happy and binkying!! I don’t want to go to the vets at this current time (and with a small issue), but I also don’t want it to become an ulcer or anything like that. Does anyone have any tips of trying to get it off? I should add he is quite flighty and definitely not a cuddly bun!!

Trying to remove it may cause damage to the cornea. Flush with sterile saline if you think it is a foreign substance. It may be your bunny has minor damage (scratch?)to the cornea so what you see is that damage.

I agree with bunny momma's advice. Is Bunny moulting ? Sometimes a Rabbit in moult can get a sticky eye/eyes if a lot of lose fur gets into the eyes and irritates them.

He is moulting profusely. I don’t think it is a scratch as it moves around his eye when he blinks etc.

I’ll see if I can get some saline in Tesco’s on my next shop (that sounds bizarre but they have bottles that are used for contact lenses! I use them to wash my piercings)

Thank you for replying x

Try getting something like this, easier to use than the big bottle of saline
