Normal behaviour or nesting

Hi all,

This is what Benji has done second night in a row. Please see photos here:

Last night he filled his tunnel with hay. The night before he put a blanket inside his tunnel.

Is this a normal playful behaviour?

The reason I’m asking is because I got him from a private owner who said that Benji is a neutered male. However when I asked my vet to confirm this she wasn’t able to. She had 4 people look at him and they all agreed that he looks a bit unusual down there and they couldn’t determined if he’s a neutered male or an unspayed female.

That’s why I’m wondering if this is nesting behaviour? Maybe Benji is indeed a girl?

Also, the previous owner is not giving permission for Benji’s medical records to be released so we can’t confirm with his previous vet that he has indeed been neutered etc.

Occasionally neutered Bucks will Nest, it is not unheard of.

Very surprised that no-one has been able to confirm gender. In an adult the genitals are easily distinguishable. You need to gently press above the prepuce

Thank you for this. They tried explaining to me why they struggled to determine his gender but I can’t remember exactly what they said. If I have a chance I’ll ask a rabbit expert to confirm.
