  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

nodular myxi

I think Vanessa's idea of keeping the bun at the vets is really good; have you tried asking them?

One of my vaccinated bunnies caught myxi last year and had a huge number of lumps on her head and all over her body. She was ill for quite a few weeks but is now fine. Her vet prescribed antibiotics by injection (alternate days) and it's honestly not difficult to learn to give injections to your rabbit - half the time I think it's less stressful than trying to squirt nasty tasting stuff into their mouths.

Evie stayed with her 3 companions throughout and none of them caught myxi from her.

Vanessa, thankyou sooo much for the great idea of asking the vet! when i'm in turmoil and stressed i need my thoughts expanded for solutions to problems.....wonni is going to stay at the vets for the week we are on holiday!!!!! at present he is having alternate day injections and obvious monitoring of eyes and nose...he has'nt lost his spark whilst on the vets table he promptly jumped up and kissed me then preceeded to bite my boob!!!:oops:.......thats my boy! Thanks 4 your offer of a crate alison and to everyone who took the time to reply and to help me find a solution to the situation we were facing!xxxx

Really pleased you have found a solution to your problem. It is probably the best place for him too. Hope he recovers from this nasty thing soon.

I hope ya bunny gets well soon n ya do find some1 to care for him while you are away :) but can i also just ask who is takin care of ya other 12 bunnies while you are away :)

they go to a lady who is registered to look after peoples animals......"Molly Coddles" but for obvious reasons she would have been unable to take wonni! I have been using her services for over a year and very pleased.
