My Inca has broken her toe in her front Paw - Update P34

I am so sorry it's such bleak news.

How is Inca in herself? I guess only she can tell you if you are putting her through too much xxx

She is ok, she seems a wee bit scunnered since we were at the vets but the vet really was poking around in her foot quite a lot so I think it will be a bit tender, then I have been cleaning and putting honey in.

I plan on just trying my best and seeing how that goes.

That's all you can do. You know inca well so will know if she has had enough at any point. I have my fingers firmly crossed it heals well xx
I have no idea what scunnered means!

If you imagine a hand as her paw, then the abscess hole is on the palm and the toe broken is the one next to the pinkie. It is not bend right back but is more like out of the socket if that makes sense, so it can be moved about and is sticking slightly up from her other toes. She doesn't flinch or anything when I move her toe. It is easy to secure it to the pinkie toe and I am thinking that I could with a bit of micropore tape and it would prevent it from catching on something.

I'll try my best to treat her but it is a sad time for me just now.

I am sure that you will do everything possible to try to keep her comfortable. You have seen how Manuka Honey can work wonders before. Heres hoping that it will again, in combination with the systemic abx.

I'm heartbroken for you, I'm so sorry the news wasn't more positive. I hope there is something that can be done for beautiful Inca. Xx

Poor wee Inca! I would probably try to strap it and keep the wound open to breathe. I would also keep her on either vet bed or newspaper to avoid debris getting into the open wound.
I would most likely seek help from a specialist just for a second opinion to see their veiw on things.
Listen to her, you know her, if she is fighting fight with her, they can make it through the bleakest of situations and surprise you.
Vibes and good luck

Thanks for the vibes and advice folks. Inca and I appreciate it.

I have cleaned her abscess out a couple of times now, getting a wee bit of pus out each time and getting honey in. To be honest her foot doesnt seem as near swollen and her toe doesnt seem to be up as much at an angle as it was. I am assuming that some of the pus coming out is letting her toe rest more back at a normal angle.

She is still eating well and still teeth purring when I have her cuddled up on my knee.

Just taking it day by day now and hoping that Mr Manuka works his magic!

Aww she's a lucky girl to have you caring for her Kermit

Happy to hear she's improved slightly this morning and is in good spirits :D

Sending loads of abcess killing vibes xxxxxxxxx

((((((((((((((((Mega healing vibes for Inca))))))))))))))))))
I am sorry the diagnosis was not more positive, but I agree it might be a good idea to get the possible second opinion or specialist, if it wouldn't stress Inca too much.
I hope Inca will heal quickly and be feeling better and back to herself very soon!

I did think about a second opinion, but I honestly think that she has so many other things wrong with her that another vet would the same.

My Inca's ailments:

Born deformed, so no tail and deformed lady bits and has really skinny back legs and feet, no nails on one back foot and deformed nails on the other.
Because of the deformity suffers from on & off scaulding & urine infections
Has had EC in the past
Has bladder issues
Arthritis in back end and spondylitis
Gets about with one leg lying right under her, causing her hip to rub on the floor and often causes a wee sore
No also has a broken front toe and an abscess

At the moment I am happy trying to treat her and hope that she responds well. She can cope with most of what is wrong with her but she really does need shot of this abscess to do well.

I totally support your decision to try to treat symptomatically and see how she goes

A GA would be a major issue for any Rabbit with such a lot of problems and sometimes it really is not in the Rabbit's best interests to put them through it. I know for certain that you will do what is best for Inca xx

Oh no poor little Inca. So sorry to hear things are so tough for you both at the moment.

Sending as many healing vibes as we can.

Trust your instinct you know your Inca better than anyone.

kirsty you know her best. And when I seen her aye she had the problems but you can see how happy she is
I'm sure youll give her the best care.
*hugs*
xxxxx

Ah... :( I'm sorry I didn't realize there were so many other issues. :(
I am no one to talk, as Mimzy is very in need of a dental and I've not been able to take him in, I have no business urging anyone else to have their bun seen twice. My apologies. (((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))
I will just keep prayers and vibes going for wee Inca (((((((((((((healing vibes and prayers))))))))))))))) and I'll add extra for her other discomforts. Poor bub. xxxx

she's such a lovely wee bunny, I hope all our positive vibes help in some way, sending more for Inca xxxxxx

Sorry I've not been around to add support and sympathies. I'm really sorry to read what your poor Inca (and you) are going through. When you've talked about her food refusal/bladder infection type issues I've not realised how much else she has to contend with. I really hope this turns out just to be a not-to-serious setback for her and nothing really major. She is quite obviously getting excellent care.
