  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Lilac at the vet - possible stasis

Orenoko

Mama Doe
Had to drop Lilac at the vet's this morning, she was fine last night, running around and ate her dinner
This morning she was super quiet, cold and wouldn't touch anything, even treats I tried offering. She even let me pick her up, which is a definite no-no under normal circumstances. I decided not to take any chances so have left her with the vet. They can't find any blockages or anything wrong with her teeth so are giving fluids, pain relief and syringe feeding her. It was a strange experience, I had to drop her at the front door and leave her there as owners aren't allowed in, it felt a bit like I was abandoning her! If she picks up I should hopefully be able to pick her up later today.

Really hope Lilac picks up soon, and is allowed home later today. Yes I would feel the same leaving Treacle on the doorstep, strange times ! Lots of vibes for your girlie xxx

You did exactly the right thing by getting her straight to the Vets. I hope that she responds to treatment and that she will soon be home x

Thanks all, I should have an update my about midday. She's had stasis once or twice before and I've never been able to pinpoint the cause. I bought a different brand of hay which she didn't seem to like, but mixed it with another hay she does like so not sure if perhaps that's the cause?

Rupert seems a bit lost without her, he's running around the house after me wherever I go honking and looking for cuddles! Talk about playing the sympathy card!

I very much doubt its the hay, as such. But maybe if she has not been eating as much hay as she should the lack of fibre has caused her GI tract to slow down x

Thanks all, I'm just waiting outside the vets now to collect her. She has improved all day so they're happy for her to come home with some meds.

Thank you for such a positive update. You will be relieved to have Lilac back home and she will be much more comfortable in her familiar surroundings. Sending more vibes for Lilac and hope that the meds help to get her back to full health. xx

Thanks, she seems much happier than this morning and has already had something to eat so hopefully she'll continue to improve.
