Hi everyone I'm Tanz

I've just joined this morning, we (my family) have just got a new French lop baby boy .
He's very sweet natured , chilled out and loves a fuss already.
But today I noticed he still hasn't pooed or had a wee at all since we have brought him home .

I have so much anxiety right now !!
We have a vets appointment at 12.30 , I have his tummy a little massage and it's feeling very bloated.

He's on the same food as where we got him from so no changes.

I haven't owned a French lop in over ten years since my angel Murphy died and it broke my heart so I can't have this little man feeling unwell

Hi, welcome to the forum:wave:

I'm guessing you got him yesterday? My view is that he's probably just feeling a bit overwhelmed and stressed by his change in circumstances. Did you leave him to settle quietly into his new accommodation? Is he eating?

Hopefully the vet will give him a good examination and establish what is going on.

Sending lots of vibes for your little one. Let us know how you get on.

He was eating hay on the way home but I haven't seen him eating since .. we have left him alone apart from having a nosey to see what he's upto .

He was happy asleep last night when I peeped he was in his plush totoro bed !

Clock watching till its time to go to the vets now

Welcome to RU & the world of rabbit worry:( . I hope the vet helps - do let us know how he goes

I will do .. thanks for the welcome :)

I thankfully never had much to worry about with my 2 previous rabbits but I have developed anxiety since so everything is a worry now.

I'll keep you updated x

It's a good vets I've always seen the same one for both my previous rabbits and our scottie dog .
Tom himself is specialist in small animals

I'm home from the vets which was a really worrying visit .
Tom was quite concerned and gave him 3 injections .
Ones pain relief and the other is like a laxitive.

I also have a recovery mix to give him once a hour and he said to give him anything he will eat even though he's a baby .

The good news is he lapped up the mix and his now eating some fresh parsley.

He's such a good boy he let us syringe the food into his little mouth no problems and still doesn't mind being handled .

Hopefully this will strengthen our bond and not make him hate me

Sounds like good treatment and advice from your vet :thumb: It's great that he likes the recovery food and also that he's eaten some parsley.

I've just given him his second lot of the recovery food (which smells like henna) and he's more lively and his seems to be slightly less bloated .

Keeping a very close eye on him

has he done any poos yet. i hope hes doing ok poor baby has probably gone from being with litter mates to being on his own with strange places and faces. He lucky to have a mummy that worries about him xx welcome and look forward to some pics when hes all better xxx

We think he has done a wee .. still no poos even with the injections :'( I'm really worried now !

The food via syringe is really hard to give him I'm worried more ends up on his face than in his mouth.

The vet wants to see him again tomorrow

Has the vet given you any gut motility meds to give him at home?

No he had injections for that and I have some food that you mix with water to give him hourly at home.

He's been on my lap having a belly massage for a hour

When you go back tomorrow, you could possibly ask for some to take away for the coming days ... It can take a few days before things get back to normal :D

By the way, you won't have to inject them - they are administered by mouth :D

I will do thank you .

I feel like sobbing my heart out.. poor little man's tummy is so swollen .

I find this very concerning. Is your vet aware of the bloated belly? True bloat in rabbits is an extremely serious matter due to it putting pressure on the heart and lungs, and usually warrants in hospital care as the bun needs heavy duty pain control and IV fluids. Xrays are usually needed and sometimes surgery is necessary as well. If you are in fact dealing with a case of true bloat where the belly is severely distended, personally I would also want to hold off feeding until talking to the vet(which should be right away), as the feeding will just increase the bloating and pressure.

If your bun does have severe bloat and your vet is already aware of this and isn't wanting you to bring your bun in for in hospital care, are you certain your vet is rabbit savvy? If you aren't sure I would suggest asking for a rabbit savvy vet or specialist in your area, by posting a new thread asking for recommendations. Not trying to knock on your vet, but sometimes there are vets that aren't very experienced where rabbits are concerned, and this can be very important. So just covering this possibility.
