Is Wilko's rabbit food good?

Mae

Young Bun
Is the rabbit food from Wilko's any good, anyone know? I was thinking of getting them the timothy hay and the pellets from there as they are cheaper than pets at home and seem to have good reviews. I thought to get the pellets over the museli because of selective eating etc and I want them to get everything they need.

Will these be alright for my bunnies?

The hay is fine but could work out expensive. Cheaper to buy in bigger quantities. :thumb:

The food.. Well it's impossible to tell as it doesn't give any kind of info on contents! But I would guess that means no! Popular good food brands include Supreme Science, Excel and Oxbow.
But you're right about pellets over muesli. :)

The hay is fine, but you are better buying big bags too, I like Dean's Farm hay (available from The Hay Experts)

There is no ingredient list for the Wilko pellets. You need something with at least 20% crude fibre. We most commonly use Science Selective and Excel pellets on here. You can see the nutritional breakdown of common pellets here:

Thank you both very much, I'll look into getting larger bags of hay and better pellets (just as well I don't have the bunnies yet haha) :3

Hay for pets sells lovely hay (my guys love the Ings but the Timothy and rye is very popular) and at £18 for a 9.5kg bag is cheaper than wilkos. http://www.hay-for-pets.co.uk

Timothyhay.co.uk is also very nice although I haven't ordered from there in a while.

If you can find a local place that sells bales of hay for horses that is the cheapest way of getting nice hay!

As for pellets I feed fiba first as it works well for my pair where one wolfs down his food much faster than his wifey bun, it means I don't have to separate them to feed and Poppy is getting enough and Thor isn't looking a little podgy anymore!

Other than fiba first excel and supreme science selective are good foods which you can buy in most pet shops or online. Also their is allen and page pellets which are normally a little harder to find but sold in big bags!

Thank you very much, i'll talk to my mum about it :)

Mine had harringtons pellets for a white (cheaper and still reasonable health wise) they now have rabbit royale muesli which they all love.

My wild rabbit loves it, she just spent half an hour non stop scoffing it. She particularly likes the flakes in the mix, (they look like corn flakes), she takes them from my hand. Problem is that Wilko are out of stock so leave them you email to be notified when they are back in stock. Only £2.50 per 2kilos, amazing stuff the "Pea feast mix", its got barley, wheat and oats in it. I crush it up for her as she`s a bit young and some of the muesli bits are a bit hard to bite into so I crush it up slightly with a mortar and pestle, makes it a bit more powdery easier for her to nibble at.

Mine have been having allen and page breeder and growers pellets for years now. A 20kg bag lasts ages as they only need about a teaspoon per rabbit. They mainly have hay and more hay.
