  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I think blitzen has had a setback

I've just gone through this whole thread. I'm so sorry to hear that Blitzen has passed.
There are no words I can say, but I am thinking of you. I am gutted for you.
Sending gentle hugs your way. So very sorry.
Sleep well, Blitzen. xxxx

I've only just seen this update  I am so sorry  It seems so hard to understand and you must truly be devastated.

Sending loads of hugs. Please try not to blame yourself for taking him to the PDSA. It really seemed that they were doing all the right things. It's also hard not to imagine that this wasn't in some way connected to his earlier URTI issue, where he was being treated by a specialist.

Also although Blitzen's life was short, it was probably as good a life as a pet rabbit could ever hope to get. It was filled with love and care and loads of lovely forage.

Ive just phoned and asked can i pick him up and they said let up know when you get here and i will tell you where to go and someone will bring him out the side door on carpark. Not very sensitive. I just need to see him now.

I'm sorry. I agree that does seem a little insensitive.
When you called this morning did you get to speak to a vet about what had happened during the night?
Personally I would ring back and request to see him in privacy before you bring him home! Preferably with a vet so they can answer any questions that you have. You are grieving and I don't agree that it is something that you should have to do on a carpark :(

That's the main thing. You getting the lad home and with you x hugs x

Personally I would have no problem collecting him from a side door to a car park, although I can understand how others may feel.

What I would need though is to talk to one of the vets to discuss what they think happened and why they think he died. I find it hard to understand that this sort of discussion would not be routine procedure.

He is home and laid to rest now. The vet said he bloated up with gas and went down hill really quick . I can see this myself from looking at him he was really big around the middle. My lad is heartbroke too but at least we all got to say goodbye and he is back home where he belongs and not on his own anymore. Thankyou RU for being here and understanding xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
