We need your voice to complain on behalf of pet rabbits everywhere please.

One of our members is concerned about an advert on TV (ITV) which advertises the weather. A child and her mother are shown in a garden after a snowfall, chasing the rabbit so that they could return it to its hutch. The weather trailer shows the rabbit being put into a hutch which clearly has no bedding. The hutch is covered in a thick layer of snow, without a cover. This is clearly not a good advert for how to look after a rabbit in bad weather.

The RWAF has already lodged a formal complaint and have been advised that as this is not an official advert, there is no official body to whom we can complain. Not good enough! Please find the time to send an email suggesting that this is not an appropriate trailer to: dutyoffice@itv.com

We've had excellent results from member pressure before, so please, be the voice for rabbits and send your concerns now!

Am in process of constructing an email - just working out how to illustrate what I want to say.

Sent one

It may be a bit scathing  but it sounds like an irresponsible ad; and I'm betting the rabbit was put in a tiny hutch too :censored:

I have not seen this advert

I have just sent an email describing the ad as you have done, urging them to stop the broadcast of it.

I've sent a email too using the RSPCAs recommendations on hutch size and winter care, so heres hoping all of us can put an end to that horrid add! It also gives out the message rabbits are great kids pets and easy to handle!

That's awful, I will be writing an email shortly. If that rabbit was really in that hutch I'm suprised it's not dead!

Got this reply... I am quite happy with it and think their reply and general attitude is good:

Thank you for your email regarding one of our ITV Weather Sponsorship items.

We have been in touch with the production team responsible for the footage concerned and can confirm that no rabbits were harmed in any way during filming. Naturally, our producers have to adhere to all animal welfare guidelines with a pet specialist in attendance.

Furthermore, the weather conditions were created using special post production effects so the rabbit would not have experienced freezing temperatures or been in the hutch for any length of time. We acknowledge, however, that some viewers may have been led to believe this is an acceptable way to treat rabbits, which, of course, it isn’t. We can confirm that there are no plans for further transmission of this item.

Once again, thank you for taking the trouble to contact ITV. We appreciate your feedback which has been logged. Your comments are valuable to us and will be taken into consideration when future scripting decisions are made.

Regards,

ITV Duty Office

hm, I haven't had a reply yet. It's good that they wont screen it anymore, but I was more concerned, not for that particular rabbit as I know we hadn't had snow yet. But for the impression it created for rabbit ignorant people.

Edit: just recieved exactly the same reply.
