  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Falling Over

Hi, can anyone advise this newbie, please? Mr Wabbit is American Chinchilla rabbit, 11 or 12 years old, blind in one eye, quite deaf, and severely arthritic hips and left hind leg. He's been on Metacam for three years. He loves his food and still occasionally chases our doe, trying to mount! He can still hop in and out of the litter Tray. He tends to fall on his side and can't get up by himself. We watch him during the day, but often find him on his side in the morning. Once we right him, he's fine, but I'd hate to think he gets distressed when he can't get up. Any thoughts, please? Thanks

My late Amigo developed neurological issues where he did not know where his feet were unless he could see them. Your vet may offer other posibilities too.

Thanks. I think it's more his arthritis than anything neurological, but definitely worth asking the question. [emoji846]

Sounds as though a Vet check up is needed. If his falling over is related to his arthritis and any muscle wastage that can occur then a review of his medication would be of benefit.

But as bunny momma mentioned, a neurological problem needs to be considered too.
