Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

EC bunny please help UD p47 possible lung scarring/water on lungs

Initially the first vet didnt see anything however after I called and asked for them to be re looked at the other vet says there MAY be dark patches but wants to re take the x-ray (at full cost I would imagine) to see if anything has changed.

She said she didnt think a lung wash was possible in rabbits, which has deflated me completely.

Which way was it an hour journey? toward birmingham or the other way?

Is there any chance I can get Mrs Ford details and for my vet to discuss this lung wash with please? I may just take Leo straight to her, what vets does she work at?

Thanks

It is worth having them retaking, I'm glad I did. It is possible, Imogen says so  It's in Cambridge so away from you I guess, google "The Cambridge Veterinary Group" and it will bring up the details. If you decide to go there you will need to your current vet to forward them your rabbits history and take the xrays with you. I have no idea if she will discuss it with your vet but worth a try, I'll pm you my rabbits name so they can mention the case to Mrs Ford

Thank you so much you have been a massive help x:wave:

Good luck with your bun, I hope you get to see a great specialist who can help you.

Let us know how you get on.

Just to update you all, I think I was a little too hasty with not trusting the vet at Damson House Vets.

My vet has been in talks with Manor House Vets at Edgebaston and they have come to the same conclusions, and they both have experience with rabbits and are exotic specialists.

Neither have had experience with lung wash in rabbits and both suggested the same procedure/treatment going forward.

The conclusion is that we are giving Leo a full course of antibiotics (baytril and penicillin injections) as well as Metacam twice a day and the lapizole. Maximum dosages of everything.

The results of the x-rays are the same showing patches on his lungs.

Back at the vets next Monday.

Thank you everyone for your help, I should have just trusted my vet in the first place!

ps I know Cambridge are more experienced, however we are treating it like a respiratory infection first to see if this will clear it up. Its too far to go for him xxx
