Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eating waste poop...

Alpha Buck
I've noticed Charlie eating a bit of poop over the last couple of days, just wondering if it's an attempt to take in more fibre?

He's still eating well but had pus on his gums again at last check up and the jawbone infection is slowly coming up again, so his hay intake is dropping off slowly... which is why I'm wondering about fibre I guess.

I was very worried that we were near the end on Friday as he was grinding his teeth for a good 5-10 minutes and I couldn't distract him from it, but he hasn't done it since and actually looks more comfortable when eating.

Still eating poo though.

Is there anything I should know/ could do to help with this?

I think you're right about wanting soft, easy chew extra fibre.
It certainly does no harm.
Mine do it occasionally if they do a poop in the wrong place!

Wildies do it when they are confined to their burrows in winter by heavy snowfall. (no footprints outside for up to 10 days) We know from research that they won't soil their burrows, so I assume they eat their waste poops.
