  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

help!

I wondered if someone could give us some advice re our 12wk old rabbit..We are not sure if Toffee is male or female, we noticed a few days ago that he/she was bleeding but were told by a friend that this was normal in a morning...We have now noticed that it is happening throughout the day, 15 year old daughter picked Toffee up yesterday and got it on her hands...I am going to take Toffee to the vets but just wondered if anyone had any ideas before we take him? My little boy (who looks after him) is really upset and worried...

It is completely ABNORMAL for Rabbits to bleed unless injured. But are you SURE what you see is blood? Rabbit wee can be a variety of colours, including dark orangey- red
Is your Bunny eating and pooing normally? Any signs of diarrhoea?

IF it is blood then you need to get Bun to a vet NOW

Please do keep us updated

You are doing the right thing by taking the bun to the vets to get it checked out... you'll also be able to find out if you have a boy or a girl too :D

Is it def blood? Could it perhaps be red wee?

Let us know what the vet says

The straw and sawdust has an orangey colour in places, it also seems a little 'thicker' than wee. I wondered if maybe he was a little stressed, we have just got two more 7wk old rabbits, none of them are sharing hutches, though they can see one another.
Poo all seems normal, he has never drunk much water anyway, eating lots of hay and some of his food.

Hello,

I just can support what is posted before: it may bee red or orange wee.

To get shure take your bun to the vet. He will tell you also what sex your bun has. ;)
I approve to collect some droppings of your bun and take them at the vet too to analyze them to worms, cocizidias, yeasts or other parasites. I do so once a quater to get shure that my buns are healthy.

Greetings. Kristina
