Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Sneezing

Young Bun
Hello,

Tonight when Cherish was eating her pellets she sneezed 3 times in a row. It was the strangest thing...do you think she could have sneezed because the pellets tickled her nose? (her pellet mix is quite loose, not like sticks) She was eating it while sitting in her litter box, so her head was on like, a vertical angle, and she did a sneeze everytime her head came up for air. Could the pellets have irritated her nose? She wasn't sneezing earlier on in the day, and she hasn't sneezed since either. She's been very lively all day too, digging, running through her tunnels...Her nostrils felt a little wet, but they've always been a little wet.

I remember a few years ago she sneezed a few random times too. Do you think it's harmless?

Thanks.

Are they Excel Pellets?? I ask because a few of my Buns have sneezing fits when eating them and I am CERTAIN these Buns dont have a respiratory infection. As long as your Bun does not have a snotty nose/runny eyes and is otherwise well I would just keep an eye on her. If the sneezing happens at other times aswell as when eating or if you remain concerned about her then I would get your Vet to check her over. Jane and Buns xx

Evo used to sneeze loads when he was on Excel too, I always found a lot of dust in the bottom of his bowl. Since he's been on SS, he only sneezes rarely, when something has tickled his nose.

Chomper has sneezing fits whenever I clean her cage. I use Carefresh, which produces hardly any dust, but it does have a unique smell that I think tickles her little nostrils.

As was said earlier, assuming your bun has no other symptoms, I'd bet money that the pellets are the culprit. Try switching to another brand.

Thanks for your replies, I feel much better now! She has been fine today, and hasn't sneezed again. I guess it was just a tickle. They're not Excel pellets - we're in Australia and I'm pretty sure we can't buy Excel here. I haven't had any problems with the pellets before, so, we'll see.
