  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Dougal needs a operation :( advice?

So Dougal went the vets today for a check up. Hes had conjunctivitis which you may know if you seen my last post. He HATES all his medication apart from his eyedrops and today i thought the vet was going to say ecerything is great and to stop all the medication hes on now the only thing i thought is he may need to carry on with eyedrops for a while longer.
Sadly its bot the case his eyelid is turned in? (My vet is not great at explaining hings or telling me what condiiton he actually has) however its noticably different then his other eye and is scratching causing infections. He needs a operation. Has anyones bun had this problem before and had the surgery? Im waiting for a different vet to phone me back so a specialist can speak to me, the vets i go to have never done this op! So until i got called back and get more info has anyone got any experience to share?

Chloe had that issue when she was a youngster. It's common in dogs apparently and my vet hadn't performed the operation on a rabbit either. It went absolutely fine though and healed quickly. It was about four years ago so I can't remember things like medication although it would have been pain killer and probably eye drops for a short while.

This is positive - I hope the op will work for your bunny too!
