  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Chewing everything - teeth problem??

Young Bun
Just wondering your thoughts on this - I've always been very pleased that my two rabbits do not chew the furniture etc, however a week ago one of them started chewing on my TV unit. Grrrr! I'm wondering if this is just something she does now, or if it could be a problem with her teeth?? She's had problems with her teeth in the past. I have left a message for my Vets to call me back for an appointment if needed.

Do they start to gnaw more if there's a problem with their teeth?? I don't want to ignore the problem or keep telling her "no!" every time she chews the furniture if she's actually in pain. She is eating fine and in every other way is behaving like her normal self! TIA.

TBH I haven't noticed more chewing with a dental bun, but Oh my do they chew if they need more fibre!! & it can be the 1st sign for some time before poohs change.
Personally I add tree leaf forage to the hay hawthorn, or bramble. (I'm a bit of a forage fanatic!)
I'm ultracautious, & would say that a change in behaviour like this merits a check up.
