Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Blood on stool and fresh in hay

Rab-bit

Alpha Buck
Hi, I was cleaning out the buns toilets and noticed some fresh red blood on some hay. On closer inspection I found Moley's stools were coated in blood not all of them just a few but there wasn't Lots of blood! He is fine I wouldn't have guessed there was anything wrong with him, eating normal, drinking running around.
I have cleaned him out and sat with him, massaging his tummy to see of it was distended or painful, he has regular gut sounds and didn't mind me massaging him. Later he pushed his back and bum down to the floor... Not stomach pressing (unfortunately I know that well).

Any ideas? I will be taking him to the vet tomorrow.

:(

Have you looked at his anus for any sign of bleeding/prolapse ?

Are you certain that the blood was not passed via his urinary tract rather than his GI tract ? So the 'squatting' may be him straining to urinate ?

Ah thank you Jane, I have had a look and there are no obvious signs of a cut or blood round his anus. So even though the blood is on his poo it could be his urinary tract? :?
