  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

my 6 yo rabbit had quite alot of clear liquid in his litter tray (dont know if it was pee or not)-could it be pee and if so is this normal-(it was quite slimy)????????since being at the vet last he has started eating (somedays not much) pooing (sometimes not alot or still small but mostly they are normal size) i think he may be drinking more, but i will keep an eye on that for the next couple of days-to be sure.

It could be 'sludgy wee' caused by the excretion of a lot of calcium in his urine

But without being able to see it myself I cant say for certain

As he has already been unwell I would get the Vet to check him over again as 'sludgy wee' can be indication of a problem which definitely requires treatment.

he has done it again last night and today-last night it definately wasnt sludgy (it was just like water) and today it was only one tiny drop?????

aw, poor bunny. it does sound like some kind of bladder issue. maybe cysitis or sludge etc. my chesney piggy had similar symptoms and he was first treated for a uti, and then when that didn't help, he was xrayed and it showed him to have bladder sludge and a bad case of cystitis. it might not be but it does sound like something going on like that. x

well i have had him at the vets and one of the reasons was that he was peeing more frequantly and tiny amounts, the vet didnt check anything, and i just had my cat for the same thing and i was told it was cystitis so she got treatment and if it doesnt work it could be crystals,so i dont know why he didnt check, think i will take him again tomorrow anyway because he has been soo quiet and his ears are always cold and he does act like he is quite sore,so another vet trip for him.
