Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Eye problems

Other than dental issues, what else can cause eye issues? Slightly weepy eyes and 'sleep' (dry eye bogeys)? blocked tear duct?

Thanks in advance x

Harry had chronic eye problems, it was caused by a fault with the skin around his eye that grew too long in places causing the eyelashes to curl into his eye. This only became a problem when he got older and the skin sagged into the eye. Still, with regular treatment and care every day it never became too much of an issue. He had the symptoms you talk about just before it flared into an eye infection.

It's Max. Basically when Lola was here, she groomed him and kept his eyes clear of 'eye bogeys', his eyes were one of her favourite spots. Since Loli is now gone, his eyes aren't as clear and I've been removed the dried 'eye bogeys' for him. It's not wet as such, nothing like some of the searches I've found on here, it also isn't gunky. I'm going to try a tear duct flush this evening and see if there's any improvement.

Thank you guys x
