  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cylap & Health Advice

New Kit
HELLO,
my 2 rabbits had the cylap injection 2 weeks ago and one of them had the reported limp, we didnt take him to the vets as each day it seemed to get better and after 2 days he was back to normal.
After playing with them both the last few days i have noticed that one has a large scab on his leg (the one he was limping on) and the other has a smaller scab under his chin.
Is this a reaction to the injection or could it be something else? there is no way that these could have been caused by anything else as they are kept separate etc...
thanks in advance for the advice and help!

It definitely sounds like a reaction to me, you should go to the vet for treatment, and they should report this to the manufacturer as a Suspected Adverse Reaction, when several of my rabbits reacted to the Cylap vaccine in 2008, the manufacturer paid out over £200 of treatment without even wanting evidence. There is an alternative vaccine called Lapinject which I have used twice since, with no side effects I am glad to say, and there is also now a new one on the market called Anivac, which some members on here have used with no problems.
