  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poss stasis / ileus UD she's eating again :-)

Took Domino to the vets this evening as she hasn't been herself for a few days now. Not eating much, not really moving about or jumping up on stuff etc. Vet was very good explaining all about primary and secondary ileus and gave her an mot. Her lungs were fine, teeth not perfectly in line but they weren't over grown nor was her mouth sore or swollen. Her gut was very slow though so he's given her a shot of painkiller (in case she is in pain from somewhere) and some gut stimulant and I have to bring her back tomorrow for a check up in case she still hasn't eaten much / anything.

My mum feels so guilty as she was looking after them whilst I was on holiday and then all of a sudden she just stopped eating and looking miserable for no apparent reason and I feel terrible for going away now!

She's hopping about in the kitchen and has nibbled on some celery leaves so fingers crossed.....my poor little bun, she's not even a year old yet!

aww hopefully she will be fine :( the tiniest thing can trigger ileus, so it might have just been a coincidence, try not to blame yourself x

I'm very glad to hear she's better! I 100% feel your pain. My bun has suffered from gut stasis about 2 times in a few months (he had it, got better from meds and then got it again after having his VHD!!) and he's only a year old as well :(

I hope your bun stays stasis free :) but do not blame yourself!! xxx
