You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Help!! Something weird is happening to my bunny

Waffle

New Kit
I got my bunny on 11.08.08 and i have had him for more than two months now. He is a male lionhead bunny. Lately he is getting me worried because he barely eats any hay, and barely any pellets. He is drinking water fine. When i got him he eats Kaylor of Colorado Sweet Harvest Rabbit and more ( Name of Rabbit food brand), but soon i started mixing it with Kaytee: Timonthy complete and now everything i put in his bowl is timonthy complete, but he is not eating it anymore. Before he would eat everything in his bowl 1-2days max, but now he barely eats anything. I bought the old brand that he use to eat today but i don't see any difference. My bunny is said to be 5 month old when i first got him. The bunny is not eating much of his old pellet and the new ones, and it barely eats timonthy hay either. The only thing he does alot is drinking the water and licking the salt wheel. He seems to be pooping fine, and the pellets are not mushy. My brother took him outside to the grass once, before this started happening. It all started this week, i don't really know what to do please help. Do you think i need to take him to the Vets? Please Help!! My bunny is not really losing alot of fur, if you pet him, 2-5 hairs come out. His nose is not really wet unless i put my finger very close to the nose, but it is just wet, it is not runny though, the outside part of the nose is dry. His paws are also dry. Is there anything wrong with my bunny? Help!!!

Ps i also put Marshall Bi odor internal waste and urine deodorizer in his water, my rabbit also nibbles on the dried carrot, and gnaw on the Ka-Bob Apple Orchard Sticks

If your rabbit is pooing then something must be going through his system, which is very important. If the poos are small and dark and compact, or less of them than before, I would take this as an indication of a problem.

I would say if you ever feel there is something wrong, trust your instincts and take him to the vets. They will listen to his tummy, weigh him and check for problems in his mouth and will be able to tell you if he is underweight.

A rabbit's reduced appetite, apart from being a problem in itself, can be an indication of something else going on in there and it's usually much better to get these identified and treated as early as possible.

If there is nothing wrong then your vet will be able to advise you on the best diet, and his ideal weight so you will know for the future :). I would say it's always worth checking these things out.

I'm sure more advice will be on it's way soon, hang in there.

You should have take your bun to the vet long ago. Most likely it's a molar causing pain or a tooth growing upwards towards the upper jaw.

Firstly, keep your bun indoor in a warm room, as he can't fight the cold at night and fight whatever health problem he has

For now, you need to force feed your bun via syringe. If a bun doesn't eat, he will die.

1) Get some non-meat baby food, use a syringe to suck up the baby food, get a cup of hot water, dump the syringe in the hot water for 2 min., now the syringe is warm, so you now syringe feed the baby food to your bun.

Every 1Kg of bunny weight, get 100 ml of food inside him per 24 hr.

OR

2) Get some blackberry or raspberry, smash it via juicer. You need about 6 oz. Get some hay stem, cut the stem in 1 mm length, mixed it w/ the blackberry. Put the mixture in a 35 ml syringe and force feed your bun. Your bun need the fiber to survive.

I would suggest getting your buns teeth checked, it is usual for one to stop eating things on their own accord. Usually there is a cause of this which needs to be investigated and treated.

Hi there Waffel, did you manage to get your bunny to the vet? I'm glad to hear he is eating apple, I think that might suggest it is a dental problem as he is hungry, but prefers to eat soft food. Does this seem about right to you? I think it's time to get poor bun off to the docs asap, before things get worse. :)
