Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Max age for neutering

Just how old would you consider "too old" for neutering a male rabbit?
Or female for that matter.
Say if neither of these had an operation or been used in breeding before, would it make a difference?
Just curious:wave:

For me, it would depend on the health of the rabbit, rather than the age...some rabbits seem 'old' by about 6 years, whilst others remain sprightly until 8-9-10 years. I've had a 7 year old doe spayed before, but some of my existing buns aren't as healthy as her, despite being younger.

I think I'd have a male rabbit neutered at any age, so long as he was in good health and I trusted the vet.

Ditto to the above. There is no maximum age, just go by the health of the bunny and its ability to cope with an op.

I just made a post about neutering my rabbit. He is 4-5 years old. I'm so worried he won't make it! I'll be watching this thread for more responses.

Had my rabbit done when he was 6, a couple of weeks ago. He's just spent a day in the garden, sunbathing with a colony of neutered bunny friends. He's the picture of a happy bun!

Thank you.
Then it certainly isn't too late for my two-year old yet:lol: (Not that I expected that...had Zakura done at 2 years too and she's female:roll:)

For a girl I might be worried from 6 years up. But I'd get bloods done first & discuss with my vet.
